Anonymous Donor Spotlight:  Southeast Denver SafeLot – Electrified

The volunteers at a SafeLot in southeast Denver and their guests were the beneficiaries of a wonderful, generous, and much needed gift.

As described by one of the host volunteers, the SafeLot was in need of enhanced lighting for the safety and security of the guests, but a couple of hurdles stood in the way. First and foremost, was finding enough funds in the Church budget to pay for the electrical work that had to be done. The second was finding a small, black-owned business to do it, as the congregation had recently made a commitment to use only BIPOC owned businesses in an effort to counter racial inequities in the Denver community.

A suitable business, ANB Electric owned by Bertram Bennett, was identified, but with an estimate of $2000 to do the work, the money still needed to be sourced.

While the lot operators contemplated funding options, Mr. Bennett called to say he had found a solution. Upon mentioning to one of his regular clients the need for better lighting at this SafeLot, the client exclaimed,

"That is the kind of project I want to support!"

Shortly thereafter, he contacted the Church coordinator to arrange for payment of the entire amount and the work began. In no time, the project was completed and the SafeLot has fantastic new lighting!

The Church volunteers and SafeLot guests were completely surprised. They’re very grateful to the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, and to Mr. Bennet for mentioning the project to his customer and doing such a great job on the lighting.  They now benefit from much better visibility in the parking lot and on Church security cameras, making the SafeLot an even more comfortable and secure place to park.
